One doesn’t choose to be a bill collector, it chooses you!
Jo Ann Veuthey-Ramer is the founder of Louisiana Compliance Consultants. In this role Jo Ann leads a team providing all aspects of collections, including new business startup consultations, skip tracing and compliance. Her team specializes in collections for small business owners with big problems!
As a business owner herself, she is a big believer in collecting bad debt while saving the relationship between business and consumer. The collection program that she developed makes that entirely possible.
JoAnn has been in the collection industry for 39 years. While attending college she was hired by American General Finance as a cashier but was quickly promoted to collections when it was discovered that she had an uncanny ability to get the customers to catch up their accounts and continue to pay. With her sweet southern accent, she pioneered the way for women to participate in an industry that was dominated almost entirely by males. She has been certified in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act since 1983 and personally witnessed huge changes in the laws that govern collections. Realizing that while the laws and consumers were changing, the industry and techniques used for collections were not, thus she found her niche and opened Louisiana Compliance Consultants.
JoAnn was the first female collection supervisor hired by the Shreveport Credit Bureau who at the time had been in business almost 100 years. There she supervised, trained and babysat over 30 bill collectors while continuing to maintain her position as “Collector of the Year”. This award is given to the collector who collects the most money each year. She was awarded this distinction every year that she worked for the Bureau. Each year she enjoyed her gift card and her half day off with pay!
As an accomplished writer she wrote a book entitled The Art of the Skip. It is a practical study guide that teaches interested parties to skip trace. She has also written a collection instruction manual and a guide to help with understanding and troubleshooting medical insurance claims that have wrongfully been denied.
In order to be at the top of her field JoAnn strongly believes in continuing education. Presently, she holds a certification in HIPAA, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act, and The Fair Credit Reporting Act. She is also certified as a consumer debt specialist and is a consumer debt collection compliance specialist.
JoAnn lives with her husband Joseph and together they have raised four children. They are collaborating on the development of a new software program that will be used strictly in the collections of small business delinquencies. The program should be available for purchase in 2020.
When growing up in southern Alabama, she dreamed of being a princess not a bill collector, however, now her crown has been replaced by a headset and she wouldn’t dream of doing anything else!
